Sixteen (16) players battled another cold, windy day with temps in the low 40’s (at best)!  Jim Young’s team had a clean sweep (+1, -2, -1).  Three players were able to break 80 today:  Pat Steiner (73), Jim Young (77) and Denny Stoner (78).

Pat Steiner knew his team didn’t have a chance when he saw teammate Greg Deck heading to the parking lot after the round!

Bruce Levin holed a crucial 25-foot par putt on Hole #9.  Before he putted, he told Captain Jim Young “I haven’t missed this putt since 1997” … and the streak is still alive for Bruce!

Fifty-one (51) players enjoyed a nice Spring day with temps approaching 60 and breezy.  The greens were mowed and rolled – SWEET!  Bill Kushay’s team won the Front (-4) and Total (-4).  Pat Steiner’s team won the Back (-6).  Tim Steiner (69), Chris Bushey (69) and Pat Steiner (71) led 21 players in the Sub-80 category.

As a side-kicker for today’s action, each team got to draw one of the Masters Day-1 Leaders from a hat and add (or subtract) that to their score.  Pat Steiner’s team drew Matt Kuchar (-4) while Bill Kushay’s team drew Rickey Fowler (-2) which allowed Pat’s team to edge Bill’s team -7 to -6.  The Closest-To-Pin winners today were Derek Baker (#5), Ed Middlekauff (#7), Oaks (#12) and Jon Mann (#17).

Winds of 30+ mph did not keep the “Beaver Bad” crowd from showing up today.  Twenty-eight (28) tough individuals battled a long, windy course and the scores were surprisingly good.  Chris Bushey’s team won the Front (-4) and Total (-5).  Hugh Morris’ team won the Back (-3).  Chris Bushey (70), Hugh Morris (72), Pat Steiner (73) and Jim Kyttle (75) led twelve (12) golfers in the Sub-80 scoring category today.

• Donnie Barton has played two of his last three rounds really well … the one he didn’t play well was last Friday (does anyone remember a +25 team record?).
• Bill “Mountain” Dew made his debut in the gang today and shot a respectable 88 – good job Bill!

Forty-one (41) players survived a 30-degree wind chill drop during the day … temps dropped into the 40s and winds hovered around 20mph.  Pat Steiner’s and Max Tissue’s teams tied the Front (Even).  Tim Steiner’s team won the Back (-5) and Total (-4).  Jim “Mumsy” Young was bogey-free through 17 holes but bogeyed his final hole (#14) and led the scoring with 72.  Quay Scott (74) and Tim Steiner (74) were close behind with a total of only 10 (of 41) players breaking 80 today.

*** Randy Cree’s team set two dubious records today:  The team’s +25 was a record, and finishing 29 shots behind the 1st place team was also a record.  The team was +14 through their first six holes and +20 through ten holes before stabilizing the ship (a.k.a. “The Titantic“).

Dr. Smirnoff was the second overall pick in today’s draft – again by Captain Ed Middlekauff!

The group of Max Tissue, Ed Rachor and Don Baker noticed several ball marks on the greens that weren’t fixed.  One of them commented “it can’t be the group in front of us (Randy Cree’s team) because they haven’t hit a green all day!“.  The author of this write-up could not verify who made the comment!

Twenty-six (26) players enjoyed a beautiful Spring day with temps near 70!  Zack Attack’s team tied the Front (-4) with Carl Showers’ team.  Jim Young’s team won the Back (-5).  Zack won the Total (-8).  Jim Young (70) and Zack Attack (71) led nine (9) players in the Sub 80’s today.  Dr. Smirnoff made his return today but was snatched-up by Ed Middlekauff before any of the other captains could grab him … but just his presence inspired Jim and Zack to play well!

After a 1-week course closure due to snow, The Beav re-opened today!  Twenty (20) players battled a long course and breezy conditions.  Pat Steiner’s team won the Front (-2), Total (-6) and tied Mike Raley’s team on the Back (-4).  Pat Steiner (71), Mike Raley (73) and Bill Kushay (73) led eight (8) golfers in the Sub-80 category today.

Zack Attack and Jim Young’s teams have been non-factors of late … mostly because Dr. Smirnoff has been AWOL.  Those guys are nothing with Smirnoff!

MASTER’S DAY-1 @ THE BEAV: Thursday, April 5, 2018

Tournament details: The Masters tournament at Beaver Creek is something that we want all members to be involved in. The format will be 6 holes of scramble, 6 holes of alternate shot, and 6 holes of best ball. All scores will be calculated through net handicap! Team skins and closest to the pins on par 3’s will also be included. This tournament will be a 2 player format (Choose your own partner). Partners’ handicaps must be within 10 shots of each other. Teams will be broken down into different flights based on their combined handicaps. First and second place will be paid in each individual flight.

Entry Fee: $30.00 (cart not included)

Time: 10:30 Shotgun

Sign up deadline: Tuesday April 3^rd

After Party: The actual Masters tournament will be played in the bar area. We will also have the projector set up so that everyone can watch the first round coverage on ESPN starting at 3PM. Food and drink specials will also be available at the 19^th hole.

Food and Beverage: $2 domestics, $2.50 import beers, and $1 off all mixed drinks. The 19^th hole will also be offering a special on wings for 99 cents per wing and homemade pork BBQ!

MASTER’S DAY-2 @ THE BEAV: Friday, April 6^, 2018

Tournament details: Friday’s format is going to be the regular 2 Ball Gross with a little kicker. Teams will be picked just as they are on regular 2 Ball Gross days. The kicker is that we will be taking your teams 2 Ball Gross score and pairing you up with a player from Masters. All the top players from Thursday will be put into a hat and after the round your team will draw a player’s name. The score of the player you draw will be added to your team’s 2 Ball Gross score.

Entry Fee: $30.00 (Cart not included) For those concerned with where their money is going… $28 will be for the tournament (At Beaver Creek) and only $2 will be going toward the player your team picks afterwards (Masters player).
