Unfortunately, the weatherman did get today’s forecast correct … temps in the 40’s and winds in the 50’s!!!  As The Governor always says, “it wasn’t that bad out there today!”.  Thirteen (13) tough (or crazy) individuals played through some interesting conditions.  To compensate for the winds, we moved everyone forward 1 tee box (and 2 tee boxes for Dirk since he had a hangover :)).  As a result, Dirk Schultz’s team had a clean sweep today!

The last two days of February brought Spring-like temps and a huge turnout today – 55 players!  The course is still playing long due to the moisture in the fairways and roughs.  The greens are nice and rolling decent.  Mike Tritsch’s team won the Front (-2) and Total (-2).  Hawk’s team won the Back (-5) after imploding on the Front (+7).  In the Governor’s Cup Standings, Max Tissue (3rd) and Mike Tritsch (12th) made big moves over the past two weeks … the complete Governor’s Cup Standings is at the bottom of this page.

Chris Bushey (68) led the scoring today.  He shot 31 on the back nine with eagles on #13 and #18.  Pat Steiner (72, 4 birdies) was second-low score.  Bobby (Mex) Sanchez shot 36 on the back nine today (and had 5 birdies on that side!).  Dr. Jim Beatty (83) snapped out of his month-long “funk” today.  A total of 16 (of 55) players were in the Sub-80 category today.

Thirty-four (34) players enjoyed Spring-like temps near 60, low winds and lots of sunshine!  There were several interesting story lines today.  Zack Attack and Hawk‘s teams tied the Front (-2).  Mike Raley’s team won the Back (-2).  Zack’s team won the Total (-3).  Here’s where it gets interesting …

Jim Young “spotted” Dr. Smirnoff 18 shots today on their individual balls (side bet).  Jim shoots 69 (yes 69) and loses to the good Doctor by nine (9) shots.  Smirnoff ended a 2-week slump and shot 78 with 2 birdies (both of which knocked-out Jim Young’s birdies from clearing!).  It was sweet revenge for Dr. Smirnoff, who has been taking a lot of verbal abuse recently, but he “manned-up” and played well today.  On the other hand, Jim Young will be taking the rest of the week off to study his notes from Captain’s Picking School.  Rumor has it that Jim and Randy Cree will be studying together tomorrow at the 19th Hole.

Thirty-one (31) players enjoyed a beautiful Winter day with temps in the 50’s and very little wind.  The greens dried out a little but the rest of the course was still wet and long.  Pat Steiner’s team tied the Front (-3) with Bobby (Mex) Sanchez’s team, and Pat’s team tied the Total (-3) with Jim Kyttle’s team.  Jim Young’s team won the Back (-3).  Jim Young (72) continued his solid play and was medalist today.  Jim Kyttle and Bobby Sanchez were right behind with 73’s.

Chuck Waltemire (77) and Marc Worton (79) had personal bests today … congratulations!

Hawk might have gone to the well one too many times with his (same) team although Max Tissue played well with a 75.  But in the process, Hawk manipulated his handicap to stay in a good picking spot!

According to Jim Young, he finally had a “B” player who played like a “B” player!

Jim Kyttle said he wouldn’t pick Tracy Piper as a “B” player again … maybe a middle-round “C” player!

Twenty-one (21) players plodded through a rain-soaked course today.  Hawk’s team won the Front (-1) and Total (-3).  Jim Young’s team won the Back (-3).  Jim Young (72) was medalist today.  The amazing 83-year old Hawk shot 73!  Pat Steiner (74) and Mark Nee (75) followed the leaders, with a total of eight (8) players in the Sub-80 category today.

Dr. Smirnoff had another tough day, getting drubbed by his captain (Jim Young) by 15 shots.  Jim says he will have a side bet with Smirnoff next week, spotting him 18 shots!  Pat Steiner and Randy Cree are scheduled for a refresher course at the Captain’s Picking School.  Hawk and Max Tissue have been on a 2-week roll.  Max is now in 3rd place in The Governor’s Cup standings, closing in on 2nd place Donnie Barton.

The weatherman scared most of the players away today, but twenty-one (21) still played as seven (7) threesomes.  The “C” Players were the Captains today … it was fun and the teams were very even.  Ed Rachor (Summa Cum Laude from Captain’s School) tied the Front (-1) with Donnie Barton’s team.  Ed’s team won the Back (-4) and Total (-5).  Donnie was Magna Cum Laude.  Billy Reed (70) and Jim Young (71) led twelve (12) players in the Sub-80 scoring category today.

Fifty-five (55) players … Temps near 80 …  Freshly mowed and rolled greens …  It was a wild day at The Beav today!  Hawk’s team won the Front (-1).  Mike Butts’ team won the Back (-2) and Total (Even).  Mike Tritsch had two of the four clears today, gaining over 200 points in the Governor’s Cup Standings and jumping 10 spots into 12th Place overall.

Pat Steiner’s team was well positioned to win or finish in second place today.  However, Dr. Smirnoff’s “alcohol-to-air” mixture was getting too rich!  They unfortunately “imploded” on their 18th hole with a triple-bogey which featured a 4-putt and numerous other catastrophes, knocking their winnings to basically “chicken feed”.  However, in a genius maneuver, they birdied The 19th Hole by parlaying their chicken feed into a big RaceTrax winning ticket!

Pat Steiner (72), Bill Kushay (73) and Jim Sklencar (73) led twenty (20) golfers in the Sub-80 category today.  The weather forecast looks questionable for Thursday.  Friday’s forecast is looking slightly better.
